What Happens When You Actually Have A Clean Mailbox?

You can actually think! There is so much peace and productivity that comes from not having 1,073 emails that you know you *should* read, but you are just too overwhelmed to actually do it. Plus, how many of them are relevant?

Below are 5 ideas to cleanup your inbox:

  • Unsubscribe from unwanted newsletters: Stop giving attention to those newsletters you signed up for years ago. Unsubscribe and give space to new things to come into your life.
  • Clear out your email inbox by deleting or archiving old messages: Reclaim that mental space! There is no need to keep those emails that you haven’t looked at in 5 years. Either delete, or archive and move on.
  • Label your emails for easier retrieval later: Labeling allows you to search and find what you need, when you need it, without a headache.
  • Set up email filters to automatically organize incoming mail: Those emails that you want or need to receive, but you don’t necessarily need to read? Automatically filter those to be sent to their own “pretty” folder for safekeeping!
  • Clear out your spam/junk folder in your email: If it’s trash, throw it out!

Immediately after doing these 5 steps, I think you’ll be surprised to see the effect it’ll have on your mental load. I’ve experienced a calmer and more focused mind, less distraction since getting rid of so much visual clutter, and I haven’t missed out on any important emails because I’m not wading through hundreds (was it thousands?) of unread emails.

Have you tried any of these steps? What was your experience like?
